Our one true God exists as three distinct persons in one:
God the Father, our creator (see Genesis 1:27 and John 1:3)
God the Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior--the Word of God made flesh (see John 1:14)
God the Holy Spirit, our Helper and Counselor, who dwells in and empowers those who believe in Jesus Christ and have accepted his free gift of salvation (see John 14:16-17).
We all have sinned and are not worthy of God's goodness (see Romans 3:23). However, God sent us a Savior--his only son, Jesus Christ--who became flesh, bore our sins, endured crucifixion, died, and rose to life three days later (see Acts 10: 40, and 1 John 4:10). Jesus walked this earth for forty more days before ascending to heaven (see Acts 1: 3). Now seated at the right hand of the Father, Jesus Christ is alive and intercedes for those who believe in him (see Luke 22:69 and Hebrews 7:25).
Good deeds or personal sacrifices will never save us from eternal death. However, we can be thankful that by God's grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, we are offered everlasting life (see Ephesians 2:8-9). Salvation--what a wonderful, free opportunity available to all who accept it (see John 3:16 and Romans 10:13).
